Foundation (1965)

In 1965, 49 congregants of Emmanuel Episcopal Church petitioned to form a mission church. Bishop Quarterman and the Standing Committee of the Diocese recognized the mission, and Quarterman attended the groundbreaking.

The 2006 Schism & Lawsuit

A major rift over inclusion and LGBTQ+ rights divided the congregation in 2006. Members aligned with strict Anglican views locked out the Episcopal members. This initiated a years-long lawsuit and a search for a new physical home. Celia Ellery served as Priest in Charge and later Rector, retiring in 2022 after the lawsuit was finally resolved.

Ecumenical Partnership & New Home

Displaced Episcopalians initially shared space with a small, transitioning Lutheran congregation, fostering deep ecumenical bonds. In 2015, the Episcopal congregation purchased a former Christian Science church building. When they moved, many of their Lutheran partners chose to join them, fully integrating into the Good Shepherd family.
